Artist Info – Yvonne Cohen
Born in 1914 in Elsternwick, Melbourne, Yvonne Cohen spent the majority of her life as a dedicated painter, alongside her sister Valerie Albiston. After extensive travel throughout Europe, studying the works of emerging painters of the day, the sisters returned to Australia in 1935. They studied at the Melbourne Technical College (RMIT), and the National Gallery School, in Melbourne. From 1940 to 1980 Cohen and her sister divided her time between a North Queensland island near Dunk Island, and Melbourne. Yvonne Cohen is known as a painter of semi-abstract landscapes and themes. She won her first art prize in 1958 and her work is represented in the Bendigo Teachers College Collection.
Yvonne Cohen died in 2004.
