Born in Ballarat Victoria 1922
Coleman studied at Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) under Murray Griffin. Followed by six years of studying with George Bell, beginning in 1948, before working as a photolithographic and cartographic artist for over 30 years.
A major retrospective exhibition in 1986 at the Bendigo, Ballarat and Sale galleries brought Coleman’s work critical acclaim.
Coleman’s work is represented in the New York Public Library and in regional public and private collections throughout Australia.
His work is currently shown in several private collections and the New York Public Library Collection.
